Family Owned Dublin Grocery Shop Announces Sad Closure After 40 Years in Business

A popular family-owned grocery shop in North Wall has announced that it is closing after 40 years.

K&A Stores is a retailer of food and is located in Seville Place North Dock. It is run by Gerry and the Fay family, who took to social media today to share the sad news that K&A Stores is closing its doors from 4pm on Monday, 7 August.

The owners of the K and A wrote on Facebook: “Hi everyone please note that the K and A will officially close tomorrow Monday 7/8/23 at 4 o’clock.

“On behalf of Gerry and the Fay family, we would like to say a big thank you to all of our loyal customers over the last 40 years for their business.”

The shop has been a staple for the local community in for many years, and many social media flocked to Facebook to express their sadness at the news and to wish the owners well in the future.

One person wrote on Facebook: “We spent our childhood in that shop this is so sad it will be missed so much.

A second person said: “Awh end of an era, best of luck.” A third added: “Best of luck to you all in the new shop.”

A fourth said: “The shop has been a massive part of the kids lives for so long as has your family. Thanks guys and best of luck.”

A fifth customer said: “Thanks for everything Gerry and all the family. You will be much missed.”

It comes as there have been several other shops closures in Dublin in recent weeks. Last week, Vegan scoop shop, Dae Ice Cream, in St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre said their last day will be on Sunday, August 27.

Speaking on Instagram, Managing Director Conor Sweeney said the shop will be closing due to “a number of reasons”. Dae Ice Cream Scoop Shop start off as a summer pop-up and quickly went on to become extremely popular in the vegan community.
